Anvil CSG Beta 2 is a free preview of my brush-based level editor for Unity. You can download it from GitHub today and use it in your own games, including commercial ones.

It's an older version, released before the newer paid release arrives. So it has known bugs, and some things you see in newer tutorials and docs aren't in it. Think of it as a way to try the workflow: block out, shape and texture your levels with brushes, right inside the Unity Editor.

What's in the September 25 update

  • Game builds work again. Building a player failed with errors about scaleInLightmap, receiveGI, stitchLightmapSeams and LightProbeGroup.probePositions. That's fixed. I checked it with a Windows player build on Unity 6000.3.10f1: no errors, no warnings.
  • Clean import. The download is now a fresh export, which fixes an import problem. The package inside the ZIP is called Anvil21.unitypackage.

No features from the newer betas were added. This update only fixes things.

What you need

  • Unity 6.3 (tested on 6000.3.10f1). Other Unity versions aren't supported.
  • The Built-in render pipeline or URP.
  • The bundled xatlas UV plugin is Windows x64 and Editor only.

How to install

  1. Download AnvilCSG-Beta2-Preview.zip from the GitHub release.
  2. Extract it and read LICENSE.md.
  3. Import Anvil21.unitypackage into a separate Unity project.
  4. Open Tools > Anvil > Workspace.
Heads up

Back up your work first, and don't import Beta 2 over another Anvil version.

The licence in short

You can use Anvil CSG Beta 2 for free in your games, commercial ones too, with a "Made with AnvilCSG" credit. You can't modify the code or redistribute it as a tool. Third-party parts keep their own licences. The full text is in LICENSE.md.

Learn the basics

The tutorial video shows the workflow from start to finish:

Video from YouTube. It only loads when you press play.

The documentation is online too. Keep in mind that newer docs may show features Beta 2 doesn't have.

What's next

A newer paid release of Anvil CSG is on the way. I'll share more here and on Discord when it's ready.
